ஒரு பார்வை

I am very disappointed that all our parliamentarians deserted us, Tamil Canadians, on Tuesday April 21 2009, in Ottawa, except NDP Leader Jack Layton.  I was particularly disappointed that Liberals also did not show up.  Only a representative from the Liberal office read a pre-written statement from Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.

Canada is not a neutral country, as it took side with the Sri Lankan government by banning LTTE in 2006, and it must be noted, in the same year Sri Lanka withdrew from the ceasefire unilaterally, then officially in 2008. This month, Sri Lanka removed Norway from the role of a broker.

I only went to the protest in Ottawa during weekends and I did not go to the Tuesday’s protest.  But I definitely feel left alone by the Conservative Canada government. With that I also felt my democratic voices were ignored and rejected.

There are many young and old Tamils who took part in this two week old protest, day and night continuously. People took great effort to not even stop for a minute of the slogan chanting. People took turns and Tamils all over Canada came on their expense willingly to take part.  Many voluntarily gave food, short eats and coffee free of charge in support of the protest. In a nutshell this was a spontaneous grassroots efforts.

Yet, Conservative Government of Canada let Canadian Tamils down.  I was very much saddened that government officials did not even listen to the hungry strikers.  Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said Canada will not bow to pressure to remove the Tamil Tigers from the list of banned terrorist groups.  That was not one of the demands of the hungry strikers or the protest in whole. This shows how Conservative Canada is not even willing to listen to the protesters.  Protest was about asking Canada to demand immediate ceasefire, and if the Sri Lankan government does not listen, then put economic sanctions and/or recall our ambassador.  Yet, Conservative Canada was not even willing to listen to the protesters and they assumed our demands were something else.

Canada is built on immigration and is continually being built on it.  There are many in this country that has some sort of ties with their mother land.  I think it became evident that Tamils should enter Canadian politics and support and raise their voice for all those oppressed who have no country and long for one.

எப்படி ஐயா இதெல்லாம் முடியுது?

உண்மையில் தமிழ் நாட்டுத் தமிழர்கள் அடி முட்டாள்களோ என்று எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது.

ஐயா நான் அன்று தொட்டு இதைத் தான் சொல்லி வ‌ருகிறேன்.

த‌மிழீழ‌ உண‌ர்வை உண‌ராம‌ல் “உத‌வி” என்ப‌து உத‌விய‌ல்ல‌.

த‌மிழீழ‌ம் தான் வேண்டும். புலிக‌ள் தான் எங்க‌ள் அர‌சு. உண‌ர்ந்து செய்வ‌தே “உத‌வி” என‌ நினைக்க‌ப்ப‌டும். இல்லையேல் “துரோக‌ம்” என‌ [இந்திய‌ இல‌ங்கை ஒப்ப‌ந்த‌த்தில் ந‌ட‌ந்த‌து போ] நினைக்க‌ப்ப‌டும்.

என்ன‌ தான் த‌லை கீழாக‌ நின்றாலும், “த‌மிழீழ‌ம்” தான் முடிவாக‌ இருக்க‌ வேண்டும். இல்லையேல் யார் செய்வ‌தும் “உத‌வி” என்று க‌ண‌க்கில் எடுப‌டாது. இதுவே இப்ப‌டி என்றால், “Sri Lanka’s territorial integrity” என்று சொல்லி த‌மிழீழ‌த்தை த‌டுக்க‌ எடுக்கும் எந்த‌ சிறு செய‌லும் “துரோக‌ம்” என்றே எண்ண‌ப்ப‌டும்.

இது தான் அன்றும் ந‌ட‌ந்த‌து.

புலிக‌ள் எங்க‌ளின் வ‌லிமைமிக்க‌ ப‌டை. பிர‌பாக‌ர‌ன் எங்க‌ள் த‌லைவ‌ர். த‌மிழீழ‌ம் த‌ருகிறோம் பிர‌பாக‌ர‌னைத் தாருங்க‌ள் என்று சொன்னால் கூட‌ தாரை வார்க்க‌த் த‌யாரில்லை. ஏனென்றால், நாங்க‌ள் ப‌ல‌முறை ஏமாந்து போனோம். இல‌ங்கையிட‌ம் க‌ண‌க்கில‌டங்கா முறையும், இந்தியாவிட‌ம் கூட‌ ஏமாந்து போனோம். இனி த‌லைவ‌ரைத் த‌விர‌ வேறெவ‌ரையும் ந‌ம்ப‌த் த‌யாரில்லை.

ச‌மாதான‌ கால‌ந்தொட்டு ப‌ன்னாட்டு த‌ன்னார்வ‌ நிறுவ‌ன‌ங்க‌ள் [NGOs] த‌மிழீழ‌ ம‌க்க‌ளுக்கு உத‌வி வ‌ருகின்ற‌ன‌. ப‌ல‌ நாடுக‌ள் த‌மிழீழ‌ ம‌க்க‌ளுக்கு அடைக்க‌ல‌ம் கொடுத்து எவ்வ‌ள‌வோ வ‌ச‌திக‌ள் செய்து த‌ருகின்ற‌ன‌. த‌மிழ் நாட்டு ம‌க்க‌ளிட‌ம் அதை விட‌ மேல‌திக‌மாக‌ எதிர்பார்க்கிறோம். வேற்றான் உத‌விய‌ அள‌வே ச‌கோத‌ர‌னும் உத‌வி செய்வ‌தென்றால், வேற்றானுக்கும் ச‌கோத‌ர‌னுக்கும் என்ன‌ வித்தியாச‌ம்?

எத்த‌னை வ‌ருட‌ங்க‌ள், எத்த‌னை இழ‌ப்புக்க‌ள், எத்த‌னை வ‌லிக‌ளைக் க‌ட‌ந்து வ‌ந்துவிட்டோம். இன்னும் சோறு அனுப்புகிறோம்; ஒன்றுப‌ட்ட‌ இல‌ங்கைக்குள் இருந்து சாப்பிடுங்க‌ள் என்றால் கோப‌ம் வ‌ராம‌ல் வேறு என்ன‌ வ‌ரும்?

சீன‌ க‌தை/ ப‌ழ‌மொழி: ஒருவ‌னுகு மீனைப் பிடித்துக் கொடுத்தால் அவ‌னுக்கு அன்று உண்வு. ஆனால், அதே ந‌ப‌ருக்கு மீன் பிடிக்க‌க் க‌ற்றுக்கொடுத்தால் வாழ் நாள் பூராவும் உண‌வு.

எத்த‌னை முறை இப்ப‌டியே சோறு த‌ந்து “உத‌வ‌ப்” போறீங்க‌ள். நாங்க‌ளாக‌ சோறு செய்ய‌ உத‌வுவ‌து தான் வேண்டும்.

சாதார‌ண‌மாக‌வே ஒருவ‌ன் நெருங்கிய‌ உற‌வின‌ர்க‌ளிட‌ம் அதிக‌மாக‌ எதிர்பார்ப்பான் ம‌ற்ற‌ய‌வ‌ர்க‌ளை விட‌. அதே போல் தான் த‌மிழீழ‌ ம‌க்க‌ளும் த‌மிழ் நாட்டிட‌ம் ம‌ற்ற‌ய‌ உல‌க‌ ந‌டுக‌ளை விட‌ அதிக‌மாக‌ எதிர்பார்க்கிறோம். ஆனால், மீண்டும் மீண்டும் இந்தியாவின் “ஒன்றுபட்ட‌ இல‌ங்கை” என்று சொல்லி எங்க‌ளுக்கு கோப‌த்தைத் தான் கூட்டுகிற‌து.

இவ்வ‌ள‌வு கால‌த்திற்கு பிற‌காவ‌து, த‌மிழீழ‌ம் கிடைக்கும் ம‌ட்டும் இவ‌ர்க‌ள் ஓய‌மாட்ட‌ர்க‌ள் என்ப‌தை உண‌ர‌வேண்டும். த‌மிழீழ‌ம் நிச்ச‌ய‌ம். இந்தியாவின் ச‌ம்ம‌த‌த்தோடோ (அ) இல்லாம‌லோ, த‌மிழீழ‌ம் ம‌ல‌ரும். அது இந்தியாவால் ம‌ல‌ர்ந்தால் எல்லோருக்கும் ந‌ல்ல‌து.

உண்மையில் உத‌வ‌ எண்ணினால், த‌மிழீழ‌ம் உருவாகுவ‌த‌ற்கு குர‌ல் கொடுங்க‌ள்.

• த‌மிழ‌ர்க‌ளுக்குத் த‌மிழீழ‌ம் வேண்டும். இதை எதிர்ப்ப‌வ‌ர் எல்லோரும் எதிரிக‌ளாக‌த் தான் பார்க்க‌ப் ப‌டுவார்க‌ள்.
• சிங்க‌ள‌வ‌ர்க‌ள் இல‌ங்கையைப் பிரிக்க‌ எத்த‌ணிக்கும் எவ‌ரும் எதிரிக‌ளாக‌ப் பார்க்கிறார்க‌ள்.
• ஆனால் வ‌ர‌லாற்றில் இர‌ண்டும் வேறு வேறு நாடுக‌ளாக‌த் தான் இருந்த‌ன‌ என்ப‌தை சிங்க‌ள‌ அர‌சு க‌ண‌க்கிலெடுக்குதில்லை.

இத‌னால் தான் இந்திய‌ இராணுவ‌ம் இல‌ங்கை வ‌ந்த‌ போது, த‌மிழ‌ர்க‌ளும் எதிர்த்தார்க‌ள், சிங்க‌ள‌வ‌ர்க‌ளும் எதிர்த்தார்க‌ள். இறுதியில் எதிரியின் எதிரி ந‌ண்ப‌ன் என்ற‌ சூட்சும‌த்தைக் கையாண்டுவிட்டார்க‌ள்.

என்ன‌மோ ஏதோ, இந்தியா பொய்க் கார‌ண‌ங்க‌ளைச் சொல்லி த‌மிழீழ‌ம் அமைவ‌தைத் த‌டுப்ப‌தில் மூச்சாக‌ இருக்கிற‌து. வ‌ங்காள‌ தேச‌ம் அமைக்கும்போது இந்தியாவிலும் பிரிவினை வ‌ரும் என்று எண்ணாத‌ இந்தியா இப்போது ம‌ட்டும் ஏதோ க‌வ‌லைப்ப‌டுவ‌து போல் காட்டிக்கொள்கிற‌து. உண்மையில் அப்போது தான் இந்தியா பிரிவ‌த‌ற்கான‌ ப‌ல‌ கார‌ணிக‌ள் இருந்த‌ன‌. புதிதாக‌ உருவாகிய‌ இந்தியா, நாட்டு அர‌சிய‌ல் எப்ப‌டி இருக்கும் என்று தெரியாத‌ ப‌ல‌ தேச‌ங்க‌ள். இந்து முசுலிம் க‌ல‌வ‌ர‌ம் ந‌ட‌ந்து முடிந்த‌ கால‌ம்.
இல‌ங்கை அர‌சின் வாக்குறுதிக‌ளுக்கு ம‌ன‌ம் ஆறுதல‌டைய‌ த‌மிழ் நாட்டு அர‌சிய‌ல்வாதிக‌ளைச் சொல்கிற‌து. 20 வ‌ருட‌ங்க‌ளுக்கு மேலாக‌ த‌மிழ‌க‌ மீனவ‌ர்க‌ளைக் கொல்ல‌மாட்டோம் என்று தான் இல‌ங்கை அர‌சு வாக்குறுதி கொடுத்துக்கொண்டு வ‌ருகிற‌து. அதை அப்ப‌டியே ந‌ம்பும்ப‌டி த‌மிழ் நாட்டு அர‌சிய‌ல்வாதிக‌ளிட‌ம் சொல்லுகிற‌து. அவ‌ர்க‌ளும் வ‌டிவேல் பாணியில் [அதாங்க‌, எவ்வ‌ள‌வு தான் அடிச்சாலும் என்ன‌ தான் ப‌ண்ணினாலும் க‌டையிசில் தான் பெரிய‌ ஆள், வெற்றி பெற்ற‌ மாதிரி ப‌ட‌ங்காட்டுற‌து] அர‌சிய‌ல் ப‌ண்ணுகிறார்க‌ள்.

த‌மிழீழ‌ம் அன்றி வேறேதும் தீர்வாகாது ஈழ‌த் த‌ம்ழ‌ருக்கு. இதை ஒத்துக்க‌ ம‌றுத்து க‌டும்போக்காக‌ வ‌ரும்போது த‌மிழ் நாட்டு ம‌க்க‌ள் கொதித்தெழுகிறார்க‌ள். அவ‌ர்க‌ள் த‌மிழீழ‌த்திற்கு ஆத‌ர‌வு த‌ரும்போது இந்தியா ம‌றுக்க‌, இந்தியாவிலிருந்து வேறுப‌ட்டு “த‌மிழ‌ன்” என்று த‌னித்து கோரிக்கை எழுப்ப‌, இந்தியா “பாத்தீங்க‌ளா, த‌மிழீழ‌ம் கிடைச்சால் பிற‌கு இந்தியாவிலும் பிரிவினை தான் என்று நான் சொன்னேன் தானே” என்று குண்டைத் தூக்கிப் போட்டு த‌மிழீழ‌ ம‌க்க‌ள் வாயில் ம‌ண்ணைப் போடுகிற‌து. க‌டைசியில் இந்தியாவின் எண்ண‌ம் ஈடேறுகிற‌து.

த‌மிழீழ‌ ம‌க்க‌ள் கேட்ப‌தெல்லாம் ஒன்று: “உத‌வி செய்யாவிட்டாலும் ப‌ர‌வாயில்லை, உவ‌த்திர‌மாவ‌து செய்யாதிருங்க‌ள்”.

த‌மிழீழ‌ம் பெற்றுத்த‌ராவிட்டாலும் ப‌ர‌வாயில்லை. [த‌மிழீழ‌ம் ஈழ‌த்த‌மிழ‌னால் ம‌ட்டுமே வென்றெடுக்க‌ முடியும் என்ப‌து த‌லைவ‌ரின் ந‌ம்பிக்கை]. எதிரிக்கு உத‌வாம‌லிருங்க‌ள் அதுவே போதும். கோடிக்க‌ண‌க்கில் வாரி வாரி இனாமாக‌ கொடுக்கிற‌து இந்திய‌ அர‌சு எதிரிக்கு. இராணுவ‌ உத‌வி கொடுக்க‌வில்லை என்று உத்தியோக‌பூர்வ‌ அறிக்கைக‌ள் விட்டு பின்ப‌க்க‌த்தில் இராணுவ‌ வீர‌ர்க‌ளையே கொடுக்கிற‌து. அப்போ த‌மிழ் நாட்டு அர‌சைக் கூட‌ இந்தியா க‌ண‌க்கிலெடுக்க‌வில்லை என்று தானே அர்த்த‌ம்?

இப்போ மீண்டும் இந்தியாவிலிருந்து வேறுப‌ட்டு “த‌மிழ‌ன்” என்ற‌ ரீதியில் த‌மிழ் நாட்டுத் த‌மிழ‌ர்க‌ள் குர‌ல் கொடுக்க‌, இந்தியா “பிரிவினை” என்று சொல்லி மீண்டும் த‌மிழீழ‌ ம‌க்க‌ள் வாயில் ம‌ண்ணைப் போட்டு த‌ன் பாதையில் லாவ‌க‌மாக‌ ந‌ட‌ந்து போகிற‌து. மீண்டும் வ‌டிவேல் அர‌சிய‌ல் தான்.

அண்ணே வ‌டிவேல் அண்ணே, நீங்க‌ளாச்சும் அர‌சிய‌லுக்கு வ‌ந்து “த‌னித் த‌மிழீழ‌ம் தான் தீர்வு என்று சொல்லுங்க‌ண்ண‌.

“திருட‌னாய்ப் பார்த்து திருந்தாவிட்ட‌ல், திருட்டை ஒழிக்க‌ இய‌லாது” என்ற‌ பாட‌ல் தான் ஞாப‌க‌த்திற்கு வ‌ருகுது.

அமைதிக்காவும், ம‌னித‌நேய‌த்திற்காக‌வும் குர‌ல் கொடுப்போம்!

மேலே கொடுக்க‌ப்ப‌ட்ட‌ ஒரு கோப்பு வாசிக்க‌ப் பெற்றேன்.

ப‌த‌வி ஆசை, குடும்ப‌ ந‌ல‌ம், க‌ட்சி இலாப‌ம், மேலோங்கி நிற்கிற‌து.

என‌க்கென்ன‌மோ, எந்த‌க் க‌ட்சி வ‌ந்தாலும் இது தான் நிலைமை என்று தோன்றுகிற‌து.

விஜ‌ய‌காந்த் கூட‌ க‌ட்சி அர‌சிய‌லில் தான் இப்போது சாய்கிறார் போலும் தெரிகிற‌து.

திமுக‌ கூட்டும் அனைத்துக் க‌ட்சிக் கூட்ட‌த்திற்கு போகாத‌த‌ற்கு கார‌ண‌ம் சொல்கிறார். அட‌ அர‌சிய‌ல் முக்கிய‌ம் இல்லை, த‌மிழ‌ர் பிர‌ச்சினை தான் முக்கிய‌ம் என்று நினைத்திருந்தால் சென்றிருப்பார்.

ம்ம்ம்… இந்தியாவில் ப‌த‌வி அர‌சிய‌ல் ம‌க்க‌ள் ந‌ல‌னை விட‌ முக்க‌மாக‌த் தான் தென்ப‌டுகிற‌து. சொல்வார்க‌ளே, அர‌சிய‌லில் சேரும் ந‌ல்ல‌வ‌ன் கூட‌ அர‌சிய‌ல் சாக்க‌டையில் சேர்ந்து விடுவான் என்று. அது இது தான் போலும்.

 மகாத்மா காந்தியைக் கொன்ற கோட்சேயிற்கு ஆதரவளித்து தூண்டிவிட்ட ‘வீர’ சாவர்க்கன் {RSS தலைவர்} இன் படம் இந்திய நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் தொங்கவிட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

இந்திரா காந்தியைக் கொன்ற புயன் சிங் இற்கு இன்றும் நினைவு நாள் கொண்டாடிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்கள் {இந்திரா காந்தி கொல்லப்பட்ட நாளான 18ந் திகதி}.  அவருடை பிள்ளைகளை உருத்துவாரா பிரபஞ்சக் கமிட்டி தத்தெடுத்து வளர்த்து வருகிறது.  மிக அண்மையில், சத்வந் சிங், கேகர் சிங் ஐ சீக்கிய தேசத்தின் {Sikh Nation} தியாகசீலர்கள் என்று அறிவித்து விழாக் கொண்டாடினார்கள்.  நாங்கள் தனுவிற்கு விழா எடுத்தோமா?

Part II:  Eelam and Indian Security: Need for policy alternatives

“It is not a secret that ever since the beginning of the liberation struggle of the Tamils of Sri Lanka, a small but influential group of individuals worked against it in India. People from opinion making sections of the society, i.e., journalists, professors, diplomats, former diplomats, bureaucrats, and officers of the armed and intelligence services were in this group. They were the main advisors of the government. Their words carried more weight than the public opinion.

In a way, by its near total dependence on the Dravidian politics of Tamil Nadu to garner India’s support, the Sri Lankan Tamil movement has failed to address and convince the Indian elite of its larger dimensions of liberation politics and its worthiness to regional stability and security.

Everybody knows what is meant by the phrase ‘International Community’ today. The Sri Lankan Tamil militancy has not committed any offence to USA or EU. It is a local freedom struggle….

Yet, many may wonder the kind of vengeful ferocity shown towards the LTTE and along with it towards the Tamil cause in Sri Lanka, by the so-called International Community.

It is not that the IC doesn’t know that the terrorism they speak of is a counter-product of genocide. The real reason for their wrath is the refusal of the LTTE to sell out the struggle to the strategic and economic interests of the International Community, where as the Sinhala polity is prepared to give away everything to have the Tamils exterminated as a nation.

Collaboration with the IC against the interests of the Tamils will boomerang on India in the long run.

The history of the past sixty years has brought us to a point that makes separation a necessary condition to renegotiate a union on an equal basis.

உலகின் எந்த விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திலாவது, சகோதர இயக்கங்களின் தலைவர்கள் குறிவைத்துக் கொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்களா?

இப்படி பல இயக்கங்கள் உள்ளபடியால் தான் இன்னும் பாலஸ்தீனத்தில் பிரச்சினை தீரவில்லை. சோமாலியாவிலும் தீரவில்லை. ஒரு ஆங்கில பத்திரிகையில் எழுதப்படுகிறது: சமாதான பேச்சுவார்த்தை எதைப் பற்றியது என்பதில்கூட ஒரு இணக்கப்பாடு காணப்படாமல் இருக்கிறது. ஒரு தரப்பிற்கு இப்படி ஒரு இணக்கப்பாடே காணமுடியாவிட்டால், எதிர்த்தரப்போடு சமதானப் பேச்சுவர்த்தையை மேற்கொண்டு செல்ல முடியாது. ஒரு இயக்கம் சமாதானம் என்றால், மற்றயது போர். ஒரு இயக்கம் 3 நிபந்தனைக்கு ஒப்புக்கொண்டால் மற்றயது ஒன்றுக்குமே ஒப்புக்கொள்ள மாட்டுது. இந்த இழுபறி நிலை தமிழீழத்தில் வராமல் இருந்ததால் தான் நாங்கள் இன்னும் பலமாக உள்ளோம். பங்குப் பெண்டாட்டி புழுத்துச் செத்தாளாம் என்ற கதையாகி விடக்கூடாது.

தலைமை என்கிற பெயரில் ஒருவர் மட்டுமே இருக்க வேண்டும் என்கிற நிலைமை வேறு விடுதலை இயக்கங்களில் இருந்திருக்கிறதா?

ஒருவர் என்று இருந்தால் அதில் தப்பேதும் இல்லையே. தலைவரின் வழிகாட்டலில் இன்று நாம் எவ்வளவோ முன்னேறி விட்டோமே. தனி நாடு உருவாகட்டும், எங்கள் முழுப்பலமும் தெரியவரும்.

எந்த எதிரியிடம் இருந்து விடுதலை தேவையோ அந்த எதிரியின் தலைவர் பொறுப்புகளில் இருப்பவர்களை மட்டுமே குறி வைத்து வன்முறை சம்பவங்கள் நடைபெற்றதுண்டா?

தலைவர்கள் தான் தீர்வைத் தரக்கூடியவர்கள். அவர்களே எதிரியாக இருக்கும்போது வேறு என்ன செய்வது. இனி வருபவராவது சிந்திக்கட்டும்.

தனக்கு உதவ வாய்ப்பு இருக்கும் நிலையில் உள்ள ஒருவர் எதிராகச் செயல்படுகிறார் என்று தெரிந்த மாத்திரத்தில் அவருக்கு வேண்டியவர்கள் மூலம் சரியான வகையில் அவருக்குப் புரிய வைத்து தனக்கு சாதகமாகத் திருப்பிக் கொள்ளும் முயற்சி அற்று அவரையே தீர்த்து விடும் திட்டங்கள் செயல்படுத்தப் படுவதுண்டா?

இது எமது தனித்துவத்தைக் காட்டுகிறது. உதவி செய்வார் என்று அவர் சொல்படி ஆட பொம்மைகள் அல்ல நாம். உதவி என்ற பெயரில் வந்து உவத்திரம் தந்த கதை தான் மிச்சம்.

இனவிடுதலைக்கான போராட்டத்தில் தனிமனித இழப்புகள் தவிர்க்க இயலாதவை என்கிற முதிர்ச்சியான போராட்ட நிலையில் இருந்து, இப்போது நடக்கும் போராட்டம் தனிமனிதப் பழிவாங்கல்களின் தொகுப்பு என்கிற நிலைக்கு இறங்கி விட்டது போன்ற தோற்றம் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறதா இல்லையா?

இதை நான் முற்றுமுழுதாக எதிர்க்கிறேன். தமிழீழப் போராட்டத்தில் தனிமனித பழிவாங்கல் என்று எதுவும் இல்லை. தலைவரை எதிர்த்தால் அவரைக் கொன்றால் அது தனி மனித பழிவாங்கலாகாது. எங்களின் தலைவரை எதிர்த்தால், எங்களை எதிர்த்தது தானே? எங்களோடு பிரச்சினை இல்லை, தலைவரோடு தான் பிரச்சினை என்று இருக்க முடியுமா? எங்கள் தலைவர் எங்களுக்குக் கிடைத்த அவதாரம். கிருஷ்ணன் மகாபாரதப் போரில் எவ்வாறு நடந்துகொண்டார் என்பது எல்லோரும் அறிந்ததே. இராமன் அன்றைய யுத்த தர்மப்படி மிகவும் கேவலமான விடயம் தானே மறைந்திருந்து வாலி மீது அம்பெய்து கொல்வது? அன்று கிருஷ்ணன் எவ்வாறு குழறுபடி செய்தாவது தர்மத்தை நிலைநாட்ட வேண்டுமென்று முயற்சித்தாரோ அவ்வாறே எங்கள் தலைவரும். ஆரியக் கூத்தாடினாலும் காரியத்தில் கண்ணாயிரு என்பது போல், என்ன தில்லுமுல்லு பண்ணினாலும், தாகம் தமிழீழத் தாயகமாகவே இருக்கிறது.

எதிர்கால நாளில் ஜனநாயக சிந்தனைக்கு இடம் இருக்குமா? “ஈழத்தமிழர் தான் விடுதலைப்புலிகள்; விடுதலைப்புலிகள் தான் ஈழத் தமிழர்” என்றொரு நிலை உருவாகி இருப்பது எதிர்கால ஆரோக்கிய சமூகத்துக்கு வித்திடும் விஷயம தானா?

இது விவாதிக்கக்கூடிய விடயம் தான். இருந்தாலும், பொது எதிரியை எதிர்கொள்வதை விட்டு நமக்குள்ளேயே அடிபட்டுக்கொள்வது அடி முட்டாள்த் தனம். இராக்கில், முசுலிம்கள் பிழவுபட்டு தங்களுக்குள்ளேயே மசூதிகளிலும், சந்தைகளிலும் குண்டை வத்து கொன்று பழிதீர்ப்பதைப் போல் ஆகிவிடும்.

தலைவர் எது செய்தாலும் தமிழர்களுக்கு நன்மையாகவே செய்வார். அவர் தனி நாடு கோரிக்கையை கைவிட்டு federalism இற்கு ஒப்புக்கொண்டு பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தியபோதும் நாங்கள் அவர் பின் நின்றோம். தலைவர் காலம் வரை தப்புக்கள் நடக்காமல் இருக்கும் என்பதில் எந்த ஐயப்பாடும் இல்லை. அவர் காலத்திலேயே தமிழீழம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டு ஒரு பொதுவான அரசியல் கட்டமைப்பு உருவாக்குவார் என்பதில் நம்பிக்கையோடு இருக்கிறோம். இவ்வளவத்திற்கும் அவை வரையப்பட்டிருக்கும். எப்போது தமிழீழம் முழுமையாக அரசாளக்கூடியவாறு உருவாக்கப்படுகிறதோ அப்போது அவை அறிவிக்கப்படும்.

Depinder Singh writes: “… I remember a telegram the High Commissioner sent from Colombo to Delhi stating inter alia that, according to information available to him, the LTTE collapse was imminent… The reason why the Army view did not or could not prevail, perhaps, can be ascribed to the lack of rapport between the COAS and the Prime Minister – undesirable in normal times, completely fatal in an emergency.

The author writes: “I am unsure of what prompted the Army Chief, Sundarji, to shift me out of Sri Lanka, but one of the factors must have been the letter that India’s High Commissioner J.N. Dixit reportedly wrote to Sundarji in September 1987 since I did not accept his order to shoot/arrest the LTTE supremo. …”

RAW began rearming other Tamil groups even while the LTTE was being disarmed in August 1987.

“According to Dixit, the ultimate objective of the IPKF was to discredit the LTTE in the eyes of the local Tamil population. In short, the IPKF was expected to play a double game. I realised that these tactics would not work since the Tamils had already understood that their aspirations for Eelam could be met only by the LTTE. Dixit then turned towards me and said, ‘General, please ensure that the actions of the IPKF are in line with my discussions with the Prime Minister at Delhi. You should adopt a posture of gradual change from negotiations to coercion. The junior commanders during their contact should ascertain the view of the Tamils on the above approach.’”

“On the night of 14/15 September 1987, I received a telephone call from Dixit, directing me to arrest or shoot Pirabakaran when he came for the meeting. Telling Dixit that I would get back to him I placed a call to the OFC. Lt. Gen. Depinder Singh directed me to tell Dixit that we, as an orthodox Army, did not shoot people in the back when they were coming for a meeting under the white flag. I then spoke to Dixit in Colombo and conveyed the message, emphasising that I would not obey his directive. I pointed out that the LTTE supremo had been invited by the IPKF in order to find a solution to the problems in the implementation of the Accord. Dixit replied, ‘He [Rajiv Gandhi] has given those instructions to me and the Army should not drag its feet, and you as the GOC, IPKF will be responsible for it.’ The next morning I received a call from Lt. Gen. B.C. Joshi, the then Director General Military Operations, who supported my stand on Dixit’s directive. However, the COAS, Gen. Sundarji, expressed his annoyance.”

Dixit and Sundarji thought that Harkirat Singh was soft on the LTTE. The texts of his assessments on September 17 and 20 and on December 5, 1987, show him to be far more perceptive and realistic than Dixit. The Army lost 1,155 men when the IPKF withdrew.

The Arar report, terrorism and Canadian security

When Justice Dennis O’Connor released his report on the Arar Commission, the Canadian government censored 1,500 words, pitting the commission against the Attorney-General at Federal Court hearings this spring.

In July, Mr. Justice Simon Noel ruled that some previously secret findings of the commission could be revealed without imperilling national security. Those sections were released Thursday. They reveal:

• The Canadian Security Intelligence Service was aware of the U.S. practice of “rendering” terrorism suspects to third countries for interrogation and torture, and that CSIS suspected early on that such a fate had befallen Mr. Arar.

• The Royal Canadian Mounted Police was in contact with the CIA at the time Mr. Arar was deported from New York to Jordan, then Syria, where he was tortured.

• When applying for search warrants, the RCMP relied on information received from a country with a poor human rights record, but never disclosed that record to the judge

• When applying for a wiretap warrant, the RCMP referred to a confession Ahmad El Maati made to the Syrians, even though the agency knew of Mr. El Maati’s subsequent claim that his confession had been made under torture.
